Course Description

This workshop is designed to introduce participants to current motor behavior theories and how they shape pediatric assessment and treatment using a Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT) approach. Movement analysis will be used as a guide for clinical reasoning in the assessment process, for treatment planning and in the application of handling to improve functional activity performance. Therapists will have opportunities to develop their handling skills through movement labs with other participants. Through lecture, movement labs, assessment and treatment demonstrations, group problem solving and discussion, participants will begin to develop new strategies that can be applied to their pediatric clients.

Objectives

  • The learner will be introduced to motor behavior theories and current Neuro Developmental Treatment theory.
  • The learner will be introduced to Neuro Developmental Treatment assessment and treatment planning framework.
  • The learner will begin to develop movement observation and analysis skills during assessment and treatment of a child with a neuro-motor condition within a Neuro Developmental Treatment framework.
  • The learner will improve clinical reasoning as a basis for more effective intervention using Neuro Developmental Treatment.
  • The learner will begin to develop Neuro Developmental Treatment (handling) skills during movement practicum with course participants and learn a minimum of three new interventions to improve motor function.
