NDT Treatment of the Infant
Course Description
- This three-day course (19.5 contact hours) is designed for therapists who work with infants and toddlers. It will cover the application of current knowledge of motor control and leaning theories to the acquisition of sensory motor behavior in typical and atypical development and will help the participant improve their assessment skills through movement analysis. Through clinical reasoning, the participants will begin to identify critical impairments in various systems, such as sensory and motor, that influence the infant’s acquisition of motor behavior and functional abilities in all areas of development. Treatment strategies for intervention will be introduced with an emphasis on Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT). The use of play as the infant’s primary occupational role will be explored in the context of NDT. Application of intervention within the family context, daily occupations and various natural environments will be discussed. Through lecture, labs, group problem solving and treatment demonstrations, participants will improve their clinical assessment and use of Neuro-Developmental Treatment with infants.
